New Tunes

Just a quick entry today to let you know that there are 6 new samples at our website and our Reverb Nation profile. We've added longer-than-usual clips of Dark Rider, Yellow Jack, Spancil Hill, Twa Corbies, Siuil a Ruin, and the Christmas Waltz for your listening pleasure. These are all rough, homespun samples but they're not bad at all. Hope you enjoy them!

Oh, and don't forget to stop by HEM.COM for video clips of us performing Hal an Tow, Johnny has Gone for a Soldier, Spancil Hill, Johnny Cope, and I'll Tell Me Ma/Rakes of Mallow!

"The gales are a-blowin', now, all the day long..."

The Bloody Lake Rendezvous is successfully under our belt... but not without incident! Storms raged over us on Friday and Saturday, making for a very adventure-packed first show of the season. The Ravensmiths' blacksmith shop, next door to us, blew over onto their forge under the force of a brutal gale on Saturday morning, but their capable and ever-vigilant neighbors sprung to their aid and we managed to get her "back on her sticks" before the whole place could catch fire. And rumor has it that the temperature dropped below 20 degrees on Sunday morning... after approaching 70 on Saturday afternoon! Altogether a very challenging weekend, indeed.

And yet, through the wind and the rain, we managed to attract a wonderfully rapt audience for three nights of music! We introduced Dark Rider, Yellow Jack, and the Christmas Waltz to the world; as well as our arrangements of Twa Corbies and Spancil Hill. Many folks requested that we get samples of this new stuff up on the website (and hurry up with the second CD already!) as soon as possible. We'll be happy to oblige with the samples in the coming weeks (before Ft. Wayne, June 7). Once we recoup the costs of making Fog & Fire through CD sales, we'll be in the studio bringing you all the aforementioned on our sophomore album, Twain!

Bloody Lake Rendezvous this Weekend!

Hi folks!

I just wanted to remind everyone that the Bloody Lake Rendezvous is this weekend (May 2-4, 2008) at Historic Black Hawk Memorial Park in Woodford, WI! The show is $2 at the gate (children under 10 are free) for a full day of fun in the past! Stop by and see us at our camp near the cabin and/or the blacksmith shop. We'll be playing all weekend, come rain or shine, and this is your first chance to get your hands on a copy of Fog & Fire live and in person.

This is the scene of the 2007 video featuring Brigands' Folie playing "Hal an Tow" and if things go as planned, we'll again be working with Roger Bindl to feature the history of another of our traditional pieces. It's great outdoor family fun less than an hour from Madison!

Hi folks,

Just wanted to take a second to point out a couple new features on BrigandsFolie.com. We've created a merchandise store where you can get t-shirts and sweatshirts and other cool stuff sporting the Brigands' Folie logo! There's also a Lyrics area, where we've started to post the official lyrics to the songs we perform, beginning with the songs from our debut CD, Fog & Fire.

My next post will be about the Street Team area on our Reverb Nation site, where you can help promote our CD, the Living History events we attend, and our network of fellow traditional musicians. You can even win a free t-shirt or autographed copy of our CD! Check it out, or keep your eyes peeled for the next issue of Blog & Fire.

Print It!

That's right, folks... Fog & Fire is at the printers and is now available for advanced sale (will ship before March 28 at the latest)!

You may be wondering about the image that accompanies this Blog & Fire post. We recently conducted a Survey to determine which song best depicts our 'sound'. The winner(s) will be submitted to Marc Gunn's Irish & Celtic Music Podcast as a representative sample of our CD as a free promotional tool. With 85% of responses in, The Faerie Thorn is the clear winner with The River Pirate and High Barbaree in a close race for second.

We've also added a "Buy Our CD" button on the website! Go ahead and buy your copy of the CD today, and you'll have it in your hot little hands by the end of March.

Keep your ears tuned, and we'll see you in the Past!

Out of the Studio!

We let out a collective sigh of relief, yesterday, but the tension is still not completely released. Our debut CD has made it through the entire gambit of studio activities (recording, engineering, mixing, mastering) and now we've got the Master in our hot, little hands. The final step is to ship the Master and the artwork off to the printing company for pressing, printing, and packaging. That means that some time in March we will be able to offer your own personal copy of Fog & Fire through a PayPal link on our website!!!

Keep your eyes peeled for a pre-order option, some time in the next couple of weeks.
